Ragesong: Awakening is a Young Adult fantasy book written by my friend J.R. Simmons. I don't read a lot of fantasy. Several years ago after much coaxing I read the first Harry Potter book, within 2 pages I was irritated because people can't turn into cats and what in the heck is a muggle? When I read fantasy I have to make my brain go to a "different" place. For this reason I enjoyed this book very much. I was able to take my mind to a different place and escape for a few hours.
I don't want to give a lot away, but I still want to encourage you to read this book! Read it yourself, read it to your kids, and encourage the young readers in your life to read this book. I felt that the story flowed very well and even though it was fantasy the author made me believe in a land called Fermicia, and the power of Ragesong.
Jake and Sam are two kids living a pretty normal life when their world is turned upside down after two Changelings show up and tell them they have been chosen to help save their homeland. The characters are very like able and I could totally relate to them. This is a classic tale of good versus evil. As the young people are tested and tried, they are smart and overcome the difficulties placed in their path. I was drawn into this story. I couldn't wait to see what happened next and if good was going to over come evil.
The fantasy became real for me, and I can't wait to read the second installment of Ragesong.
